Jabulani empowers many local projects and organisations through volunteering and financial support. We also act as a network and facilitate mutually beneficial connections. Organisations with whom we work include schools, soup kitchens, children’s homes, and those supporting homeless and abused children.
We also empower individuals, enabling people to access education, employment, and basic necessities such as safe housing, as well as giving people an opportunity to contribute to their communities.
In 2001, Alex Wallace, then principal of James Gillespie’s High School in Edinburgh, founded a partnership between Gillespie’s and Zwelibanzi High School in Umlazi, Durban’s biggest township. Over the ensuing decade, the partnership flourished and grew into a student exchange programme and a network for schools and organisations in Umlazi and Durban. When Alex retired in 2012 the Jabulani Project was born, and in the years since, it has grown into a thriving charity. Jabulani is a registered charity in both Scotland (SCIO) and South Africa (NPO).
